The Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of British Columbia is seeking applications for a new Director.

Established in 1991, the Peter Wall Institute is UBC’s premier institute for exchanging ideas, advancing interdisciplinarity and supporting innovative themed research. Enabling basic research by 350 outstanding scholars in every UBC faculty and most academic units, the Institute offers a variety of interdisciplinary initiatives including thematic and residential programs, and international exchanges and partnerships. The successful candidate is expected to be a full Professor of exceptional standing with a broad scholarly vision for interdisciplinarity; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in interdisciplinary, collaborative research; proven leadership and administrative abilities; and outstanding leadership skills. The individual must be committed to facilitating contact and collaboration among excellent scholars from different disciplinary approaches, and must actively encourage cross-fertilization and advance new ideas.

Internal and external applicants are encouraged to apply. External applicants, if successful, will be required to secure a tenured position at the University in addition to the Directorship appointment.
